Membership Plans & Tiers

BetterUnite membership plans model your real program, not a template. Bill weekly, monthly, or yearly with period multipliers, set fixed dues or let members name their amount, add setup fees, and stop fixed-term plans after a set number of cycles. Sell July-to-June memberships in November and charge when the period begins, attach a benefits template to every new member, present plans under public names, and change dues without touching existing members.

01

Billing That Matches Your Dues

Weekly, monthly, or yearly cycles with period multipliers, fixed or member-set pricing, setup fees, fixed-term plans, family and household structures, and member-chosen auto-renew at checkout.

  • Bill weekly, monthly, or yearly, or every 2 weeks or every 2 months with a multiplier
  • Set a fixed price, or let the member set the amount, with a setup fee or one-time payment at signup
  • Stop a fixed-term plan after a set number of cycles, and let members choose auto-renew, and how many cycles, at checkout

02

Fiscal-Year & Future-Dated Memberships

Custom subscription periods decouple billing from the term: sell July-to-June memberships in November and charge now or when the period begins.

  • Run a July-to-June membership year
  • Sell next year's membership early and defer the charge until the period starts
  • Take future-dated signups

03

Benefits, Tracked

Per-plan benefit templates attach to every new member's record, with fulfillment tracking and control over what members see.

  • Attach a benefits template to every new member automatically, and auto-tag members per tier
  • Track and mark fulfillment, with per-benefit visibility in the Member Portal
  • Add or update benefits across all plans at once, or edit one member's by hand

04

Present It Your Way

Public-facing plan names, descriptions, and images distinct from internal names, plan-to-offer mapping per signup page, member directories, and a sponsorship toggle.

  • Show public names, descriptions, and images that differ from the internal plan name
  • Expose only the plans you choose on each signup page
  • Flag patron and sponsor tiers with the Is Sponsorship toggle, and offer honorary and lifetime memberships

05

Change Without Breaking

Plan edits grandfather existing members, and deactivation or deletion stops new signups while preserving active subscriptions.

  • Raise dues for new members without touching current ones, with upgrade and downgrade paths between tiers
  • Deactivate a plan to stop new signups
  • Delete a plan safely, with every active subscription intact

Frequently Asked
Questions

Can members choose what they pay?

Yes. Plans support fixed dues or “amount to be set by member” pay-what-you-want pricing, and at checkout members can choose auto-renewal, including a set number of billing cycles.

Does BetterUnite support fiscal-year membership billing?

Yes. Custom subscription periods let you run July 1 to June 30 memberships, accept early sign-ups, and either charge at signup or defer billing until the period starts, a structure most membership tools can't model.

Can a plan bill every two months or every two weeks?

Yes. Billing cycles run weekly, monthly, or yearly with a period multiplier, so “every 2 weeks” or “every 2 months” is a first-class configuration, and fixed-term plans can stop automatically after, say, 18 charges.

How do membership benefits work?

Each plan carries a benefits template that auto-attaches to every new member's record. Staff track and mark fulfillment, choose which benefits members see in their portal, and can update benefits across all plans at once.

What happens to existing members when we change a plan?

They're grandfathered: edits only affect new subscribers. Deactivating or deleting a plan stops new sign-ups without cancelling anyone's active subscription.

Can we show different plans on different signup pages?

Yes. Plan-to-offer mapping exposes only the plans you choose per page, with public names, descriptions, and images that differ from internal plan names, plus a sponsorship toggle for patron-style tiers.
