"A View Through a Koa Window" by Allen Goodson & Keala Lokepa     Embedded within a stunning Koa, craftsman style frame, this beautiful tile mural reflects Hawaiʻi's scenic and calming beachside lifestyle at the beginning of the 20th century.   Our murals are created using only recliamed wood and ceramic materials, saved from local landfills. As a result each element of our murals has a unique history long before we merge them together. The Koa used in this incredible mural was originally harvested and used as a subflooring in a Hilo warehouse built in 1907. The warehouse was torn down in the 1990s, where the artist was able to save small quantities for future use. The porcelain tile used here was reclaimed from a local residential construction site. A total of 37 hours was required to make this offering.   Our mural images are the result of photographs and extensive image processing in various graphic arts software. Completed images are then printed onto poreclain tiles, providing significant UV and hazard protection. Hand painted and fired tiles are also available but at significant addtional cost. Our murals have been used to adorn fireplaces, tabletops, gates, doors, and gardens.   As members of the Daughters of Hawaiʻi we are honored to offer this mural for your consideration. This particular mural is our very first mural completed here in Hawaiʻi. It is signed and numbered on the back.     Winners will be contacted to schedule a pickup time for the item. If shipping is required, the cost will be the winner's responsibility.

"Kumu Hula" by world renowed artist David Kawika Maes Gallegos   Giclee, approximately 22" x 48.5"   Individually, the paintings of David “Kawika” Gallegos embody some of the best art of their kind to be found anywhere in Hawai‘i. Spirit Art Studio creates human form and nature in a way that integrates the true spirit and feeling of the people, culture and beauty of these islands with unusual and uniquely created works of art.    Gallegos uses wood as other painters use canvas or paper. He burns his skillful drawings onto koa or mango with heat tools and then subtly colors them with oil paint. He is fascinated by hula movement. Each Gallegos painting features hula dancers, strategically placed to allow the grain of the wood to further enhance his compositions. The work of the artist demonstrates a mastery of the respective media as well as a solid and skillful appreciation of the beauty of the human figure both in motion and at rest.   The work in The Figure Hawaiian shows that the artist received classical training. Gallegos earned the Master of Fine Arts at the University of California, San Francisco. He has had numerous one-man shows, on the mainland from Maryland to Alaska with a concentration in the Bay Area of California, plus a number of shows in Japan as well as in Hawai‘i.   "Art is a journey of the Soul: The essential part of this journey, is for the Artist to master their own vehicle (Medium), Knowing Their Destination (Form and Content,) Understanding their life’s resources to get to that destination, and the exploration of the journey. With any Art form, this journey should be a clear, precise, close, and selective view of the individual soul’s, personal cartography of which the viewer is able to travel with the artist’s on their journey. The ideal is to attain the mystery and phenomenology we see in Nature, and the nature of Woman and Man." --David Maes Gallegos, 1995.   Winners will be contacted to schedule a pickup time for the item. If shipping is required, the cost will be the winner's responsibility.
