Anchored In Love is a one-day conference designed to spiritually encourage young women in the unique struggles they are facing and share the message of their true beauty, purpose and worth.
Wonderfully Made is raising $1,000 within the Santa Ynez Valley to provide scholarships for girls to travel to and attend the one-day conference in San Diego.
The total cost to attend and for a one-night hotel stay is $90.
Anchored In Love’s keynote speaker is professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton has become a source of inspiration to millions through her story of determination, faith and hope. At the age of thirteen, Bethany lost her left arm to a 14-foot tiger shark, which seemed to end her career as a rising surf star. One month after the attack, Bethany returned to the water and within two years had won her first National title. In 2007, she realized her dream of surfing professionally and since then her story has been told in a New York Times best-selling autobiography and in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer. Most recently, Hamilton released her new documentary Unstoppable, which weaves intimate footage of Bethany and her family, the surfer as a young woman, jaw-dropping surf scenes, and gorgeous ocean wave panoramas into a heroic tale of bravery, perseverance, athleticism and hope.
This year musical guests include award-winning sisters Jamie Grace and Morgan Harper Nichols. With nearly 1.5 million followers across social media, Jamie Grace, a Dove Award winning artists actively advocates for joy, wellness and mental health through the lens of music, film and Faith. Diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (OCD, ADHD and Anxiety) at a young age, Jamie Grace offers a message of hope to those struggling with battles such as mental health challenges. Morgan Harper Nichols is a writer, artist, and musician who makes her work around people and their stories. Nichols’ poems circulate virally across social media offering words of hope and encouragement.
Wonderfully Made partners with Hamilton’s foundation to host Anchored In Love each fall and offers short films, a podcast, resources and an online community to practically and spiritually encourage teen girls and young women in the challenges and pressures they face in today’s culture.
Studies show that 98% of girls feel there is an immense pressure from external sources to look a certain way and 1 in 4 girls
On top of these, many more report being constantly anxious, sleep deprived, and under significant pressure.
“Today’s girls and young women are having a hard time believing their value,” says Founder, Director and Buellton resident Allie Marie Smith who battled depression as a young woman. Over a quarter of young women experience a Common Mental Disorder. “Many girls today are battling eating disorders, depression, unhealthy relationships and other crippling challenges that rob them of the life they’ve been created for,” says Smith. “Our message to girls is that they are valuable beyond measure and that there is hope for whatever it is they may be going through. We want to see today’s young women thrive and live spiritually and emotionally healthy lives.”
Wonderfully Made has held local events for Santa Ynez junior high and high school girls over the last ten years including a one-day retreat at Horseman’s Hangout, a mother-daughter brunch, workshops and weekly Bible studies.
