Friends,
First, we'd like to thank you for helping make TFDP’s Pro Bono Program such a success over the past couple years. Your pro bono work restoring driver’s licenses and records has helped remove key barriers to employment, housing, and supportive services for many Texans. As you know, our clients are parents, caretakers, employees, students, and teachers: helping one person restore their license or record has a profound impact on families and sets entire communities up for stability and success.
This year, we are launching a One Day’s Worth initiative, in which we ask attorneys throughout the state to commit a single day of their salary to supporting TFDP’s direct service programs. We know you already see the value in our pro bono work, which is why we wanted to reach out to you in particular. TFDP's training and guidance have created an entire statewide network of pro bono attorneys who can take on driver’s license restorations, Class C misdemeanor fines and fees, and record nondisclosures and expunctions.
Every bit of support makes it possible for us to continue this vital work:
- $100 allows our systems navigator to connect clients to wraparound health, housing, and employment services.
- $250 helps us restore a community member's license, so they can safely drive their kids to school and buy groceries.
- $500 fully trains a pro bono attorney so they can take on driver's license and record restoration for TFDP clients with multiple needs.
- $1,000 enables us to run an entire driver's license recovery clinic, so we can support many community members at once.
Our goal is to garner statewide support from people at every stage of the legal profession–from summer associates to managing partners. We also hope to encourage a little friendly competition among colleagues, all in the spirit of a shared goal: let us know if you'd like to set up a donation match or challenge among your colleagues.
Once again, we thank you deeply for sharing our commitment to end the criminalization of poverty in Texas. We are stronger together than alone--and we know your support will fuel our fight in the year ahead.
In solidarity,
TFDP
