The volunteers at Saffron Trust Women’s Foundation (STWF) are currently serving hundreds of families in Austin who have been impacted by the Covid19 pandemic as well as the elderly and disabled members of our community.
Since October 2020, they have served over 2000 meals to these groups. Now, STWF is trying to expand its meal services to help anyone in need.
They serve not only Families but Parents, the Elderly, the Disabled, and even Veterans. According to an article on 11/20 in the WASHINGTON Post — Texas military families are struggling with a lack of food at a higher rate compared to military families elsewhere in the country.
Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN), a nonprofit organization that served families found one in eight respondents said yes indicating that they were at risk of food insecurity, about the same as in 2017.
Covid19 exacerbates situations that were already tough to begin; 1 in 4 families were struggling from food insecurity before the pandemic hit. Today, 4 in 10 Americans report experiencing food insecurity for the first time as a result of the pandemic.
Saffron Trust Womens Foundation (STWF) believes that Healthy Nutritional meals should be a right for "All "not a privilege for a "FEW" and has partnered with The Cooks Nook, a culinary incubator in Austin, Texas, preparing daily, high-quality, healthy nutritional meals – and distribution daily. CEO and Founder of STWF, Phyllis Everette, knows the challenges that people in food insecure situations face. As a single mother, Phyllis raised three children and now seeks to develop the services that can make a difference in the lives of members of our community in greatest need..
