Miami, FL - The Speed Project Creators designed a decentralized global fitness event, to give access for teams all over the world to participate in a 31 hour 15 minute running experience. The Speed Project is committed to support groups and organizations who stand and fight for social justice, inclusion, education, justice and equality. In the spirit of uplifting an organization making a difference for education justice in Puerto Rico, this year, the Miami-based, NO SLEEP CREW RUN TEAM, dedicates every step of their 31 hour 15 minute relay run, with The Speed Project #TSPDIY, to fundraise $150,000 to benefit IslandCorps.org First Response Mobile School to help the non-profit acquire a school bus that will serve over 300 children who survived the earthquake in Puerto Rico.
Since January 7th, 2020, IslandCorps.org's first response education team has been educating children living in difficult conditions in the southwesternPuerto Rico area affected by the earthquake. Due to the health conditions in the refugee camps and the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Montessori-style, first response education program was suspended, until they purchase a school bus. We want to help get children living in difficult conditions in Puerto Rico back to school. The NO SLEEP CREW RUN TEAM raises funds by running an approximate 300 miles, to purchase a mobile school bus/wellness education hub on wheels, for IslandCorps.org first response teachers, to serve children who survived an earthquake, were secluded by the pandemic, have faced sporadic electricity, running water, limited Internet access and are still without access to education resources since the earthquake affecting Puerto Rico on January 7, 2020.
Every step we take is a RUN for justice, equity and access to education, for all children across Puerto Rico to have a chance to experience access to world class education and a happy childhood.
