Thank you for supporting me as a Star Dancer for Lumina Nights: Dancing With Our Stars, a fundraising event benefiting Lumina Alliance, on April 12th-13th! I am raising money for Lumina Alliance to support their essential services, like Emergency Shelter, which is near and dear to my heart. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference in the lives of survivors, their family members, and our community at large.

As you may know, Lumina Alliance provides an array of vital services for victims of sexual and intimate partner violence in SLO County. I am committed to helping survivors find hope, healing, and empowerment. Please join me by donating today!

I also hope to see you at the event! If you’d like to see me bust a move on the dance floor, please purchase a ticket to either Friday or Saturday night and be prepared to cheer for yours truly. Thank you for your support of Lumina Alliance and of me! Your kindness, encouragement, and donations will go a long way in uplifting me during this new experience.

About the Star:

James (Jim) Brescia is the San Luis Obispo County Superintendent of Schools, a college instructor, a local performing artist, and a six-time Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. Dr. Brescia supports several arts organizations, serves on the board of Opera San Luis Obispo, enjoys mentoring aspiring leaders, and consistently supports agencies such as Lumina Alliance that promote violence prevention, education, and public policy. Dr. Brescia’s writing and research interests include employee recruitment and retention, arts integration in our schools, school leadership, and fiscal leadership. Dr. Brescia has peer-reviewed numerous articles published in national and international journals.

A public servant, Jim has requested that all donations provided towards his campaign as a Star Dancer for the Lumina Nights: Dancing With Our Stars event be evenly redistributed on the final night of the event to his fellow Star Dancers. Jim’s campaign and support of Lumina Alliance will focus on the Emergency Shelters program, a life-changing and life-saving program that provides a safe and confidential location. Guests of the shelters and their families are offered empowerment-focused advocacy, self-sufficiency services, and therapy. Services are free of charge to any survivor of intimate partner violence.
