Chip in Fore Water Safety and Help join us in child drowning prevention!
Live Like Cati is a non-profit started in 2019 after the drowning of our little six year old daughter Cati. We had asked the summer camp to put a life jacket on her before going into the pool because she could not swim. Unfortunately, they did not do this and she drowned under their care. After her death, we learned that drowning is the number one killer of children under 5 and the second for children under 15. Sadly, our state of Texas many times leads the nation with the highest numbers of drownings of children.
We began Live Live Cati in 2019 and in 2020 we launched our Summer Life Jacket program. We give all summer camps in Texas the opportunity to apply for free US Coast Guard life jackets for their non swimmers. At this time Texas does not require water safety education for staff who take children to pools. Because of this Live Like Cati not only gets to deliver the Jackets but we also take the time to teach their staff on water safety procedures and the importance of the use of a life jacket for their non-swimmers. To this day we have given over 1600 life jackets to summer camps all around our state. We want to make sure that every child that can not afford a life jacket and can not swim gets a life jacket.
In 2020 we took water safety awareness even further by partnering with Colins Hope, a Texas based water safety non profit that offers free water safety curriculum to schools. Together we joined Health and Human Services and gave free water safety webinars to all child care workers in the state . To this day we have clocked over 1800 hours.
We can't do this work alone so today we are trying to organize a Golf Tournament fundraiser to fund our 2024 Life Jacket Program and we ask for your support.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!
