As the year closes, we at Journalism and Women Symposium are not tired. We’re energized, thinking back on some of the motivation we’ve been given this year:
"You have someone at the top talking about ‘fake news,’ but our job is to be truth tellers." - Dorothy B. Gilliam
"We’re the scrappiest people on earth. We’re the people to watch.” - Mary Annette Pember
These are just a few of the wise words JAWS members heard at this year’s Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP) in Williamsburg, Va., a gathering centered around facing the organization’s past and defining its future, in addition to helping journalists build their skills and build something new in their newsrooms or freelance careers.
In the words of 2019 JAWS Emerging Journalist Fellow Eleanore Catolico, “JAWS empowers young journalists because they give them access to editors across the country, resources and education about how we can be great journalists within the climate today.”
Journalists also gathered in Washington, D.C., New York, Detroit and Boston, and virtually from even more locations, to talk about what being more inclusive could and should look like.
We need your help to keep the momentum going as we enter 2020. You gave us a great head start on #GivingTuesday, and we’re looking to finish the year strong.
Help us raise $5K by Dec. 31 and bring our donor total to 100.
When you give to JAWS, your gift, whether it’s small or large, makes you a part of the work we’re doing to change the face of media.
Be a part of...
- Training for women journalists from entry-level to more experienced, freelance to staff, with our 2020 webinar series, beginning with Let's Talk Money: A Personal Finance Webinar in January
- Support in the form of guidance, job leads, access to funding opportunities, and more. Since 2017, we’ve been offering a discount on AIR memberships and we plan to keep expanding our partnerships.
- Advocacy as we continue to spotlight the great work and career advancement of women journalists, advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion and speaking out against industry harm.
Thanks for helping women journalists get a strong start to 2020.
