Time to Unite - Gift to JAWS
This is a challenging time for journalists. They are on the frontlines, literally risking their lives to provide critical information to our communities. At the same time, they are facing furloughs and layoffs. At the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS), we know that this year has had devastating implications for many women in journalism. #GivingNewsDay is a special, urgent appeal to support news organizations that are in need of funding now. Join us in supporting journalists by donating to organizations that support them, like the International Women’s Media Foundation, these recommendations from the Knight Foundation, and organizations like JAWS that offer ongoing professional development and community. We believe that our collective generosity can make a difference. JAWS has been around for 35 years, supporting the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and working toward a more accurate portrayal of the whole society. Our plan is to be around for another 35 years, but in order to do that, we need your help. As JAWS President Mira Lowe wrote, "In this tumultuous time for our industry and country — mergers, restructurings, and press attacks — now, more than ever, we must focus on equipping our members with the knowledge, tools and support systems they will need to succeed." As you consider who and what you support during these uncertain times, please think of donating to the Journalism and Women Symposium or any of the above-listed news organizations. Help us continue to support the community of women journalists both personally and professionally.
