Guests are flown in a modern, luxurious 4-place (three passenger) helicopter which provides an unobstructed view of the landscape below! Plus, two beautiful hand-thrown clay wine goblets by the husband/wife duo Kelly & Pamela Donaldson of Cross Creek Clay! They hold a generous 12 oz. and measure approx. 3 1/2" in dia. by 8" tall. Silas Wines are crafted by Alex Clark and Tony Markward. Each wine is a product of their distinctive yet complimentary palates and varied wine experience. Alex and Tony make the wine by hand every year and spend the non-harvest season evaluating wine in barrels, coming up with potential blends, and trying to stump each other with blind tastings. Their original work was high-fired, gas reduction, mostly functional ware. Most of their work were collaborations with Kelly throwing pieces on the wheel which Pam decorated/altered with painted glazes, relief carving, and sculptural elements. All pieces, including dinnerware, were one of a kind. They have never considered themselves production potters. The early '80's took them to Bend, OR, where circumstances conspired to turn them to raku as a primary firing technique. Freed from the need to be functional, their work went in a different direction. At first most pieces were collaborations, then Pamela began supplementing the repertoire with hand-built sculptural work--mostly wall hung--much of which was informed by her interest in the human figure. Then there was a break for some years while Kelly built golf courses and Pam sold paintings in galleries as they were moving around with no place for clay. Since moving to Dundee, Oregon in 2014, they are back to clay again under the name of Cross Creek Clay. Events have again come together to take their art in a new direction. They were able to design and build a dedicated studio--with a roof full of solar panels, which meant that instead of just bisquing pots in electric kilns they have also been firing the glazed work in them. This light with a rocker on/off switch is 12" h x 12" w x 8" deep, the wood is mahogany, and the lightbox is constructed from acrylic with applied art paper—60-watt LED bulb max. Originally from Maine, James Violette started designing and woodworking in his late teens. He lives on a remote property in McMinnville, OR, surrounded by nature and plenty of inspiration. And James is inspired by all of it. James usually takes a modernist approach. He is aesthetically leaning towards brutalism, mid-century modern, art deco, and minimalist design. Shapes and angles in architecture, the concept of dimension, and the combination of elements and materials, such as various woods, metals, and fabrics, soon follow. James wants to create ambiance through a piece that's balanced and sculptural and casts dramatic shadows as well as light. Artist's Statement - "I can't really pretend to have some deep, philosophical reason I feel the need to create lighting. It's quite simple - I just do. It's close to an obsession. Their original work was high-fired, gas reduction, mostly functional ware. Most of their work was collaborations with Kelly throwing pieces on the wheel, which Pam decorated/altered with painted glazes, relief carving, and sculptural elements. All pieces, including dinnerware, were one of a kind. They have never considered themselves production potters. The early '80's took them to Bend, OR, where circumstances conspired to turn them to raku as a primary firing technique. Freed from the need to be functional, their work went in a different direction. At first most pieces were collaborations, then Pamela began supplementing the repertoire with hand-built sculptural work--mostly wall hung--much of which was informed by her interest in the human figure. Then there was a break for some years while Kelly built golf courses and Pam sold paintings in galleries as they were moving around with no place for clay. Since moving to Dundee, Oregon in 2014, they are back to clay again under the name of Cross Creek Clay. Events have again come together to take their art in a new direction. They were able to design and build a dedicated studio--with a roof full of solar panels, which meant that instead of just bisquing pots in electric kilns they have also been firing the glazed work in them.
