The Guadalupe Centers Golf Tournament was first established in 2004 to raise funds for scholarships. As both Guadalupe Centers and our golf tournament continue to grow, we have decided to direct the funds from this year’s tournament towards the organization’s core mission-based programs and services while continuing to provide scholarships to students. WHO WAS BOB SOLTERO Bob was born November 5, 1927 and grew up in the west-side community of Kansas City, MO where he experienced a lot of discrimination and prejudice. At 17, in November of 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. After his discharge in 1948, Bob returned to Kansas City where he married Carmen Tinoco and returned to the restaurant business. Bob served on the Guadalupe Centers’ board of directors for over 10 years. He was a sponsor of both the center’s culinary arts school and Guadalupe Centers High School and volunteered by cooking in many of our fundraisers. Bob had a life-long love of golf, caddying as a young boy, starting to play golf at 15, and spending more than 20 years working at the Swope Park Golf Course.
