Size: 12 x 16 About the Artist David Jonas, a native of Los Angeles, attended the Art Center School and the Jepson Art Institute, after which he began a successful career in New York City as an illustrator. After ten years, he returned to Los Angeles, where he illustrated children's books. Following that, Walt Disney Studio employed him as a motion picture illustrator and animation storyboard artist for ten years. He decided to broaden his horizons and free-lance as a storyboard and conceptual artist throughout the motion picture industry in the major film companies, including four more years for Disney Animation. During that time, he extended his studies in landscape and figurative painting through various classes and workshops. In 1989 he retired from the film industry and began painting full time while studying and teaching at the California Art Institute in Thousand Oaks. Late in 1999, David moved to Los Osos with his wife, Susan, where he continued painting on the Central Coast. His work is in many private collections, and as a signature member of the California Art Club since 1992, he has participated in juried in the Golden Medal exhibitions. He has taken part in several painting festivals at the mission San Juan Capistrano, which purchased one of his paintings for its museum's permanent collection. His work has been included in several museum shows, such as the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, the Fredrick Weisman Museum in Malibu, and the Pippin Museum Prescott, AZ. His film production work is represented at the Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco. He was last represented by the Mayr Gallery during its tenure in San Luis Obispo and was a Morro Bay Art Association member. |
