Dora Alicia Estrada-Michael was 62 when she passed. She was my oldest sister of eight siblings. She was born in 1949 and died in 2012 after a five-year battle with breast cancer. Dora was a mother of three and grandmother to three when she died. When her son, Christopher, took her for chemotherapy she would ask him to play “Take the Long Way Home” by Supertramp. There was a certain part of the song that resonated with her because she was also going through a divorce at that time.
Does it feel that your life’s become a catastrophe?
Oh, it has to be
For you to grow, boy
When you look through the years and see what you could have been
Oh, what you might have been
If you would had more time
So when the day comes to settle down
Who’s to blame if you’re not around?
You took the long way home
In memory of my sister Dora and a those who have fought and are fighting breast cancer, I am asking for your help by donating to support women in our community who don’t have the funds for mammograms and other breast health services. Your gift in any amount would be appreciated.
