FEATURED SPEAKER
Susán Hoemke is a social activist, speaker, program creator of IMAP Drug Education program and author of "Healing Scarred Hearts: A Family’s Story of Addiction, Loss, and Finding Light." As a wife and mother of four, her life took an unexpected turn in the form of her son Hayden’s addiction and other subsequent family tragedies that taught her the hard way about substance use disorder and mental health challenges. Hoemke lost her son to a heroin overdose in 2014 and now she hopes to not only bring awareness and education to substance use disorder / addiction but also to offer hope and healing after loss. Her time spent living with an addicted loved one, researching, attending recovery meetings, and discovering ways to heal enables her to speak on these subject matters from a deeply personal perspective.
HONORARY CHAIRS
Lee & Paul Michaels have lived in the Park Cities for the past 21 years and have been deeply involved in serving the community. Their exuberance for service has benefitted CARE and many other local organizations. Their daughters, Kate and Lindsey, attended Highland Park ISD and witnessed their mom's service in a multitude of PTA and volunteer roles and their dad's encouragement and support of this service. Lee was elected to the Board of Trustees for HPISD and, among other roles, served as the liaison to CARE. During her time on the CARE Board, Lee served as President as well as Breakfast Chair. We honor and applaud Lee and Paul for their longstanding spirit of service to CARE and the community.
