In 1999, the lives of three women were changed forever. Karen Haag, Joyce Chulock, and Lori Walsh were all diagnosed with breast cancer.
They met at a local support group and, although they came from different walks of life, became fast friends. It was this friendship that eventually led to the founding of Camp Bravehearts.
All three women knew they were getting the medical care they required, but felt they needed a place to go for emotional and spiritual support. And so, in 2000, Camp Bravehearts was formed.
Today, Bravehearts is a non-profit organization that offers women dealing with cancer a variety of virtual and day programs as well as weekend retreats, each focused on a different theme. Whether it’s rafting down a river or relaxing on a beach, one concept remains the same; Camp Bravehearts is an experience of friendship, fellowship, sharing, and healing.
