*MULTIPLE ITEM PACKAGE* Flow Acrylic Landscape Painting 31.5"x12" Small Standing Barn Owl Figurine 6"x5" Small Crouching Barn Owl Figurine 5.5"x7" Abstract Acrylic Landscape Painting on board by local artist Susan Foley. This piece is an original from 2007, unframed.   Primarily self-taught, Susan Foley started out as a representational artist. At an early age, her main focus was painting wall murals and decorative faux finishing techniques. Her interest in abstract art was sparked while living in the South of France where she was surrounded by a wide variety of artists. She lived in the towns of Antibes and Biot and took private lessons in Saint-Paul de Vence.  After moving to the English Cotswolds, Foley continued her experimentation with abstraction. During her time there, she created large-scale sculptural wall installations in mixed media. She considers herself a non-objective artist, however she often recognizes memories of her time abroad in France and England within her paintings. Featured figurines include Barn Owl from the Majestic Owls of the Night Maruri collection.

*MULTIPLE ITEM PACKAGE* 2 Pit Fired Owl Whistles Burnished Pit Fired Whistles: Design process: first step is building an egg with clay, hollow in the center (trapped air inside), then form and smooth the piece. Secondly, press in the eyes and designs for the wings, feathers, bill, and brows. Finally, cut a hole in the bottom, then cut a wedge shape from hole adjacent from tail, poke a thin metal nail file through meeting wedge past hole such that the file slides on the bottom of piece rubbing past wedge’s sharpest point. The air that is blown through the tail should cut through wedge and make a whistling sound. Burnishing process: first step is to let it harden to a ‘leather’ like state. Secondly, burnish (rub the stone on the clay) with a smooth rock a few times, finishing off any fine detail. Finally, let owl dry all the way out and oil with vegetable oil. Bisque fire: Fire in a kiln at a low temperature, so that it does not burn off sheen of burnishing and oil application. Pit Fire: Dig a hole. Fill the bottom of the hole with sawdust, seaweed, and or grasses. Put pieces in. Gently place firewood on top. Set ablaze. Watch it burn down. (The longer and hotter (to a certain extent) it burns, the better the results). Wait for it to cool enough to pull pieces from the bottom. Enjoy what the fire gods have created in color. Many, many hours go into one piece. Charcoal Owl Drawing 24"x18" One of Bird Rescue Center's Clinic Supervisors, Sarah Kay Brady explores her creativity in many art forms. Ostrich Egg Cloisonne Enamel  So how did our volunteer and bird art collector, Lili, transport that ostrich egg back from China in one piece??  It was easier than you think!  Ostrich eggs are thick, having to withstand the weight of an ostrich sitting down on it. An adult ostrich weighs anywhere from 140-320 lbs!!  A human can stand on an ostrich egg and it will not break!!   And it traveled in the carry-on, of course     But there’s more you should know about the value of ostrich eggs!     As the largest living bird species in the world, the ostrich unsurprisingly lays massive eggs that have been valued by humans for millennia. But their value goes beyond serving as a royal dish for ancient pharaohs; across cultures, the ostrich egg has long possessed symbolic significance and associations with prosperity, truth, life, and rebirth. Evidence as early as the 4th millennium BCE reveals eggs were hollowed and intricately carved, used as perfume containers and drinking cups, and buried as part of ancient Egyptian funerary rituals. Eggshells were found in sites of the early cultures of Mesopotamia and Crete, and the use of eggshells as drinking vessels was continued by desert peoples until at least the late 20th century.   Ostrich eggs were also, of course, highly valued for their nutritional intake, with a whopping 120g or so of protein per egg.  (Source: “Myths in the Museum:  The Iron-Eater and the Ostrich Egg”)

Minerva Great Horned Owl  12" X 15" Mixed media piece partly made from cork and other natural materials by Leslie Prindle-Klein.  "Why birds?  I have always had a profound love of birds.  As a child, I could soar in my dreams.  My parents loved nature—and birds in particular, so I was raised with these incredible creatures as part of my family.  In my bird collages the intricate parts may look like puzzle pieces—small, precise and fitted—yet more consideration is involved.  I carefully select storybook figures, old ledger pages, antique maps, handmade papers, engravings, foreign text, Japanese tissues, cork, acrylic paints, and antique photos to create my images. I am in my happiest place when scouring my antique books and papers for just the right image.  When incorporating discarded antique photos, I literally and figuratively weave a paper fantasy about these lost lives.  In honoring and immortalizing these "new friends,"  I find solace." *MULTIPLE ITEM PACKAGE* The Parrots Print 20"x13.5" Originally reproduced in only 175 precious sets and limited to Britain’s highest elite, this stunning masterpiece of scientific illustration history is now available to all. Drawing from live parrots, Edward Lear (1812–1888) created lifelike illustrations so dazzling they earned him the honor of teaching his craft to Queen Victoria. This collection assembles his finest achievements for all to admire.  Unlike other avian illustrators who often worked with stuffed birds, the young and prodigiously talented Lear (1812–1888) made his drawings from live parrots, capturing their expressions and movements in remarkably lifelike illustrations. The new medium of hand-colored lithography facilitated the vivid elegance of Lear’s work. The author  Francesco Solinas, born in Rome and educated at the University of Pisa, is Maître de Conférences at the Collège de France, Paris. He is the author of numerous books, catalogues and essays on 17th-century Roman art and culture, as well as works on Italian aristocratic collections of the Medici, Barberini, Frescobaldi and Theodoli.  Enjoy this complete set of Edward Lear's parrot prints gifted to this auction by one of our amazing veterinarians! Old Owl III  Watercolor Framed 22.5” x 15” Painting From the artist: Original watercolor painting. This is a watercolor using a technique I call “erased” painting. Unlike most watercolors, it is glued onto a board and varnished to protect the paint.

Old Owl III Giclee 12” x 8” From the artist: The original painting is an “erased” watercolor while this is giclee. "Giclee" is a French word I've been told means "spatter". With computers now, we can make prints of art ad infinitum. To try to give reproductions the value they used to have, the concept of "giclee" was born. Each of my paintings was professionally photographed. They were printed on archival paper with archival inks. They're printed on high-quality ink-jet printers which basically "spatter" the ink onto the paper. I've signed and numbered each print.
