The VFC’s mission is focused on helping our most destitute and needy veterans; those who without our help are at very high risk to return to the streets. Our focus is on those veterans that need the most help, which is why we work with the VA's HUD-VASH program. This federal program provides subsidized housing tied to ongoing medical care and counseling by the VA for destitute veterans. When Congress authorized this program, they provided funds for all the ongoing care, however they did not include any funding for furniture or household goods.
Since we started delivering all new items, in 2019, we have delivered to over 400 veterans in the Phoenix area. The new furniture and household items give the veterans a sense of ownership and pride that many have not had in a long time. As we say:
