JENAL DOLSON Pink Moon Boot Acrylic on paper I make work that deals with surface, re-presentation, and formal material connections. I find relationships at play in procured fabric, cardboard tubes, chain, hair, and foam that acknowledge the in-between areas that physically and visually reside in a liminal space. The forms I work with often correspond to a series of paintings and drawings that culminate as document. The specificity of space, recognition, and movement that each image holds presents itself in what I liken to psychic structures that allude to presence and absence, memory and reality. These inherent dualities question perception, authenticity, and hybridity. Jenal Dolson graduated from the University of South Florida with her MFA in Painting in spring 2020. She has recently participated in group exhibitions at The Contemporary Art Museum at USF Tampa, Quaid, Parallelogram, and Coco Hunday. Dolson is a recipient of the Larsen and Palmer Award, Jane and Harrison Covington Award, was selected as a Wujcik Scholar, and was nominated for the Dedalus Foundation Masters of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting & Sculpture. She is a past recipient of the Ontario Arts Council Emerging Artist Award, Toronto Arts Council Visual Artist Project Grant, and the Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance Grant. She has Attended residencies at the Vermont Studio Centre, Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island, and Tempus Projects A.I.R., in Tampa, FL. Dolson recently mounted a virtual solo exhibition of work made during COVID-19, with Tempus Projects in Tampa, FL at the end of May. WEB: http://jenaldolson.com INSTA: @tampabaebae |
