| Original work by Trish Panopoulos, "Lend Me Your Ears and I'll Sing You a Song," 16" X 20" signed, framed and matted art print. A tribute to the Woodstock Music and Art Fair held August 15-18, 1969 on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, New York, attended by nearly a half million fans. This painting includes Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker and, in the sound tower, Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. This four day festival is considered one of the greatest musical events of all time with 32 acts that included: The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Ravi Shankar, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ten Years After, The Band, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Sly & The Family Stone, Sha Na Na, and many more. Two days before the event 60,000 people had already arrived and set up camp. By that Friday, the roads were so jammed with cars that performers had to arrive by helicopter. Although 100,000 tickets had been sold, masses of people without tickets swarmed the concert grounds forcing the promoters to declare that the concert would now be free to all who showed up. Richie Havens opened the fest as a solo acoustic act; his riveting protest song “Freedom” closed his set. Jimi Hendrix was the last act scheduled to perform Sunday night and was moved to Monday morning due to the long delays and complications from the rain. He delivered an unprecedented version of the Star Spangled Banner to a crowd that had already dwindled to less than half. Four days of music, disorganization, half a million people, rain, mud, delays, music, peace and love -- the rest is history. Donated by: Trish Panopoulos |
