On Friday, September 17, 2021, I will be embarking on a 100k+ (about 67 miles) fundraising bike ride to benefit pediatric brain tumor research. We will ride from St. Barnabas Parish on the South Side of Chicago to Long Beach, Indiana.  For many, this will be the longest ride they have ever attempted.

The ride honors the life of Patrick McNamara. At the age of 2, Patrick was diagnosed with a pediatric brain tumor. During his short life, Patrick endured more than 15 brain surgeries, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and countless radiation treatments. Through it all, Patrick never lost his winning spirit and love for family and friends.  Patrick died at the age of 13 from the ravages of the disease. Patrick was the child of my good friend since college, Tom McNamara, and his wife, Dee, the organizers of Pat Mac’s Pack.

I'm proud to serve on the Pat Mac's Pack Board alongside a wonderful group of people (volunteers all) dedicated to raising money to fund two wonderful purposes:  1) research on pediatric brain cancer cures and treatments thru Lurie's Childrens Hospital and 2) assisting poorer and stressed out families with cash donations to help them deal with the financial stresses that can come with caring for a sick child when parents can't work as much and the expected and unexpected bills keep coming due.  Assisting these families in their times of need is huge and so immediately rewarding.  Helping to fund the research and hearing about how our donations help advance the search for cures and treatments gives us hope.  I ask you to dig deep and help the Pack fund its mission. I always find this ride challenging but also very rewarding as over 175 of us pedal for the cause.  Please join me in supporting Pat Mac's Pack.
