Abby's Impact Goal
My fundraising goal is to raise $500 to help build a home for a family living in the garbage dump communities of Guatemala City. The cost of a home in these communities ranges from $5700-7500. I know that what I fundraise will make a difference and empower a family with a dignified, safer home!  Families living in the communities we work alongside are partially or completely reliant on the city’s landfill for means to survive and make a living. Many families live in homes built from materials found in the garbage; they often have dirt floors and rarely have running water. Families work in the garbage dump all day long looking for bottles to recycle or items to sell. On average, families make about $5-7 a day. Therefore, it would take families multiple generations to save enough money for a new, cinderblock home.  I chose Home Building because it is so important for every family to fulfill the basic need of a shelter. It breaks my heart that people don’t have a place to call home like we do here in Barrington. I would love to go to Guatemala to help build these people’s homes, so they have a safe place to live. Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

My fundraising goal is to raise $250 to help sponsor the participation of a woman in HOPE’S IN’s Fortaleza program. Fortaleza is a community support group for teen mothers and at-risk girls in Zone 3 of Guatemala City. Fortaleza is the Spanish word that means both strong refuge and strength. It is important to appreciate that the communities are plagued with a multigenerational cycle of young pregnancies, single mothers, broken families, violence, and a severe lack of health care. However, we hope to be a place of refuge for the strong women we work alongside by providing access to counseling, healthcare, mentorship, and educational scholarships.   I want to support this program because I’d love for all women to be able to have access to supportive resources that could help them be in the best state of mind and health. It’s important to me because when I’m not in the best place it’s comforting knowing I have people and places to go that can support me getting through difficult times. I would love for all women to have the same. Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

I plan to get involved by reaching out to people to fundraise. I did the fashion show one year and realize how much passion I have for the people in Guatemala and I’ve realized how lucky and grateful I am to live the life I live. I hope that no other woman has to go through what my grandma did. So many women in Guatemala are in need of good healthcare, guidance, education, and mentorship. Donating a few dollars could help many women in need of it, as they have beautiful futures in the making! It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could donate to help my fund to support the Fortaleza program in this year's Hope's In Style Masquerade Show!

My fundraising goal is to raise $1500 to sponsor the participation of a woman in HOPE’S IN’s Fortaleza program for 1.5 years. I truly believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and maybe even more! We need to end the stigma of being embarrassed to ask for help. I am choosing to support Fortaleza because at-risk teen girls are going through a lot mentally but don’t have the support to get through it. It is worth every penny to help these teen girls in Zone 3 to get the support they need! I will do everything in my power to advocate for these girls who do not have a voice and do not have an escape. By our support, I truly believe we can change the future for these girls! Thank you! Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

I support the home building program because shelter is an obvious necessity for a safe and healthy life. When I was in middle school and first heard about Hope’s In I wanted to be involved. It looked like such an amazing cause with a trip that would be fun, but also eye-opening. My sister went to Guatemala when she was in college for another program and absolutely loved it so when I heard that I could have the opportunity to do so and build homes for those who truly needed it, I knew I wanted to get involved. If given the chance when it is safe to travel, I would absolutely love to go to Guatemala and build homes as I know it would be an amazing experience. I especially would enjoy building because I love working with my hands! I crochet and sew often so this would be another and larger-scale project that I would be honored to be apart of. I remember meeting girls who were teen moms and weren’t even that much older than me, and that made me realize how important it is that these girls have resources to educate themselves and improve the future of their families. Isy's Impact Goal
My fundraising goal is to raise $1,000 to support the Medical Endowment and Initiatives of HOPE’S IN. Each summer, doctors from the Chicagoland area travel to Guatemala to host clinics in Guatemala City. HOPE’S IN has also expanded their efforts through annual medical grants that are given to different organizations that have outstanding medical initiatives through our Medical Endowment founded by Dr. Dale Coy of Barrington. These conditions and high levels of poverty make healthcare largely inaccessible to families.  My eighth-grade year, an intern from HOPE’S IN had visited my school to raise awareness about their program. I immediately was interested in getting involved with the charity. I applied to the internship program a few months later. In the last year, I have grown with the organization. I feel that getting involved has helped me understand how much privilege I truly have. One of these being health care. I’m fortunate enough to have easy access to health care especially this year due to covid. I immediately wanted to support the medical endowment and initiatives for HOPE’S IN because I one day aspire to enter into the medical field. This year due to COVID it has been especially hard for these families to receive the medical treatment they need in order to keep them healthy. I am so incredibly fortunate to be able to stay healthy this year and have easy access to health care. I want these families to have the same privilege. Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

Families work in the garbage dump all day long looking for bottles to recycle or items to sell. On average, families make about $5-7 a day. Therefore, it would take families multiple generations to save enough money for a new, cinderblock home.  I want to try and work with all of the Hope’s In programs because they are all so amazing. But since 7th grade, I’ve been dreaming of going to Guatemala and building a home for a family, so that is the main program I am trying to fundraise for. This program is so important to me because people don’t realize how much luxury we have in the homes we live in on a day to day basis. We live in houses that have solid floors, walls that are thick and sturdy, and doors that close to allow us privacy, but families in Guatemala live in make-shift houses that have none of these things. I want to raise as much money as possible, allowing me to go down to Guatemala next summer (or whenever it is safe to do so, due to the pandemic) and build as many houses as possible. I want to be a part of making these families’ lives better and a part of that can come from building a safe, sturdy home! Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

My fundraising goal is to raise $150 to help support the Hope’s In Academy. The Hope’s In Academy is a humanitarian leadership development program run in School District 220 of Illinois and the Barrington Community. The program is instructed by our Executive Director, Courtney McGovern. The mission of the program is to empower students with the skills and confidence to make an impact. Throughout the program students learn about nonprofit organization management, social advocacy, and even complete a service project as a team.  I want to help Hope’s In Academy because I believe high school students and young adults can truly make a difference in the world. It is important to educate students that they help people and make a change. First, I want to start with my local high school and my peers in my community. If more people learn about how they can make a social impact and gain skills to make a difference, the more help will be in action! Helping more and more people throughout the world! Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

The health and community support group for these young women is also something that is essential. Support Groups will allow them to feel like they have a safe space with people within their community. I plan on hopefully going to Guatemala on one of the next trips or virtually supporting as much as I can. I want to be very involved as this is something I’m very passionate about. My fundraising goal is to raise $1,000 to fully sponsor the participation of a woman in HOPE’S IN’s Fortaleza program. I want to support Fortaleza because after traveling to Guatemala, I felt a strong connection with many of the young women there. They were around my age, but some were pregnant or even married, and the fact that this forced them to drop out of school impacted me greatly because I cannot imagine being forced to stop my education at this point in my life. Meeting these young girls made me realize that while our circumstances were different, we were the same age. We enjoyed the same things, and the same experiences and I want to raise money for these girls so that they can have the chance to change the world too. Will you help me to achieve my goal to make an impact this April?

Seeing the fashion show motivated me to become a part of the program because I saw what a big impact this program had on the lives of the people living in Guatemala and it really made me want to be a part of that impact. This program is important to me because I’m so lucky to have grown up with a roof over my head and food on my table, so I want to do everything I can to help those who aren’t as fortunate as I am.
