In these uncomfortable times, we all search for a little comfort.

Our family is in our third generation of supporting CHUM. My parents supported CHUM with their time, talent and treasure, Dan and I continued this tradition, and now our kids support CHUM. We are committed because CHUM lives the call of Jesus to feed the hungry, care for the sick, house the homeless, and give drink to the thirsty. Besides their work to respond to the needs in our community, CHUM also provides people of faith an opportunity to live out our call locally; to encounter Jesus in the face of our most vulnerable friends and neighbors.

Did you know that the average number of people sleeping outdoors in Duluth is nearly 200? With CHUM, our community is working to end generational poverty and homelessness, address hunger, and work with vulnerable people to navigate systems of support.

Because of COVID-19, CHUM cannot hold their annual fundraising dinner. It's always a fun evening, and I will miss spending it with friends, but we can still support CHUM's work to reach out to our homeless brothers and sisters. CHUM staffer, Deb Holman, spends countless hours visiting people living in tents, under bridges, in the woods or in cars. She works to ensure their immediate needs are met, and builds long-term relationships of trust with people who have complex unmet needs.

  • $4,000 will purchase a snow blower large enough to plow the alley at the Food Shelf (because of Covid-related budget cuts, the City can no longer perform this service)

  • $15,000,000 to build another Steve O’Neil Apartments, to address generational homelessness and focus on children!
