| Place your bid for a unique piece of locomotive history! This locomotive builders plate once adorned Conrail Dash 8-40CW 6148, originally delivered in the Spring of 1991. The Dash 8 product reset the bar on locomotive haulage and reliability and positioned GE to assume the #1 position in the locomotive industry, overtaking EMD a generation after first entering the US market in 1960. Interestingly Conrail 6148 was part of a small population of Dash 8’s that first tested the possibility of using operator displays instead of traditional gauges. Dubbed Integrated Function Control (IFC) by the GE design team, these units marked the foundation of technology that has become a staple on all modern locomotives. After Conrail’s merger into Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation in 1999, this locomotive became part of the CSX fleet as CSXT 7340 before retirement and resale to Wabtec. Eventually scrapped for components by Wabtec in 2017, this builders plate is the last remaining piece of this locomotive. Given that only a few years after production of the 6148 GE discontinued use of metal builders plates, they have become a prized collectible and this example can now be part of your personal collection! To facilitate displaying this item, the builders plate has been mounted to a hand-made wooden base created by retired Chief Engineer Dave Ducharme. Donated by Steve Gerbracht and Dave Ducharme |
