About RBI Austin

RBI Austin exists to engage and develop inner-city Austin youth athletically, academically, and spiritually, empowering them to lead the transformation of their communities.

RBI Austin provides baseball and softball leagues, clinics, and year-round mentoring to underserved youth and communities.  Since 2011, the disparity in team sports participation between kids from low-income and middle-class homes has grown drastically, but RBI Austin has grown from serving 118 kids in 2011 to more than 1,200 kids in 2020. 95 percent of participants come from low-income households. 65 percent of participants identify as Hispanic, 15 percent as African American, 14 percent as Caucasian, and 6 percent represent other backgrounds. RBI Austin’s baseball and softball leagues provide affordable and accessible team sports for boys and girls age 4 – 18. RBI Austin’s mentor program matches East Austin 4th graders with a caring mentor to invest in their lives through graduation and develop them into future leaders of their communities. Additionally, RBI Austin’s Player Discipleship Program provides group-based mentoring for middle school and high school students.

With the support of Cat Osterman and the Moody Foundation, the Cat Osterman Softball Academy will launch in Fall 2021 to provide year-round softball training, academic support, mentorship, and leadership development for middle and high school girls. The program will facilitate closing the athletic and education opportunity gaps for girls in low-income homes, who are half as likely to play a team sport than their more affluent peers.
